I love, love, love photographing engagement sessions. I’m often surprised when a couple isn’t sure about doing them, so I thought I’d put together a few reasons why, in hopes I can convince you.
Wanna Hang-out? First off, it’s a great way for your photographer and you to get to know eachother before the wedding. It is always nice to photograph someone you know, so having a pre-wedding hang-out makes us feel like old friends by the time the wedding rolls around.
Lack of Blue Steel. People can often feel nervous about having their photo taken. An engagement or lifestyle session is a great way to calm nerves, give you confidence and show you how much fun a photo session can be.
Who are you? This is also a chance to create some meaningful photographs that can represent who you are as a couple to your guests. Wedding photos always hold a special place in a family’s legacy – but engagement photos peer into the everyday life and love of a couple, and can often be just as important.
Commissioned Art. These sessions allow us to get to places and do things we would never have time for on your wedding day. Take advantage of it!
Compatibility. And finally – it seems like a brilliant way to test out your wedding photographer and make sure you’re compatible!
Want to test us out? Please comment on this post by Feb 28 and tell us what your ultimate engagement lifestyle session would be like. We’ll put your name in a draw for a free engagement photo session AND a complimentary engagement album to take place in the Kootenays or Lower Mainland/Vancouver or Victoria in April 2013.

Jenalee Perepolkin - Great article! I think my ideal couples lifestyle shoot would be on the Big Orange Bridge in Nelson then up Pulpit Rock (hike)! 🙂
Lexy Parks - I would want mine to be a little crazy, and a little less lifestyle! Hair/makeup/wardrobe – I want to show how FUN we are.
Hilary Smith - I think my ideal would be a walk through a fabulous garden (like Van Dusen) followed by a craft beer in a cozy pub. 🙂
Samantha Tchir - I’d want to do something downtown or even stanley park. Just casual hanging out type fun.
Jenalee Perepolkin - Oooooh OR I would want to do a white t-shirt and jean shorts couples shoot with bright coloured paint and throwing it at eachother….or chalk dust!
Melissa Welsh - These are all awesome ideas! Thanks so much for sharing Ladies! Draw will be tomorrow!
Melinda Roy - I love candids of couples doing the things they love, so I’d love to have someone follow us around as we fish off our boat, hike, run from bears and roast marshmallows in the evening.
Jedidiah Forrest - I would love to have some silhouette pictures taken symbolizing what it means to be married to my partner.
