Family Canoe Trip – The training begins!

We’re joining some friends in the Kootenays this summer for a 4 day canoe trip with the kids. A family canoe trip with a 2 year old and an almost 6 year old is ambitious…and has real “gong-show” potential…so we thought it would be a good idea to do some training.

Last summer, Clio wanted nothing to do with her life-jacket – so we didn’t actually get her out in the canoe at all. Oliver got out for a few paddles…but he was pretty nervous. So, this past sunny, Sunday evening – we decided to get the kids out for our first “training” paddle.

Our first two lessons were pretty simple. For Clio it was choosing “bum or knees” – no standing in the canoe allowed. And for Oliver it was that you can either “paddle” or “don’t paddle” – but you can’t just drag your paddle along in the water!

Here’s a few photos from our mini-adventure!

I think we’ll convince her this is fun!
